Highlights of the Course

RADIONUCLIDE TECHNIQUES IN THE MANAGEMENT OF DM

     Highlights of the Course:

Introduction:

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most common metabolic disorders in the West Asia countries and is associated with long term complications like retinopathy with potential loss of vision, nephropathy leading to renal failure, peripheral neuropathy with risk of foot ulcers, amputation and charcot joints, and autonomic neuropathy causing gastrointestinal, genito-urinary and cardiovascular symptoms, and sexual dysfunction. Nuclear Medicine plays an important role by being able to make general and specific contributions to the management of patients with diabetes and the evaluation of many of its consequences.

This training

Overview of the Course:

The course covers the role of Nuclear Medicine in the Management of the complications of Diabetes Mellitus, by providing diagnosis as well as follow up of the DM complications, to include:

1. Cardiovascular System:

3. Urinary Tract System

4. Gastro-Intestinal System:

5. Infection

6. Skeletal System

7. Nervous System

Purpose of the Training Course:

The course is organized to provide intensive practical and theoretical training to nuclear medicine physicians from less developed countries of the region in the field of Nuclear Medicine. On completion

of the training course the participants will be able to:

·         Know the etiology, natural course, diagnosis and general management of patients with diabetes.

·         Use In-vivo and In-vitro nuclear medicine procedures in the management and diagnosis of DM and its complications.

·         Select appropriate protocols.
