 JOB SUMMARY

Works under the leadership of the Imaging Services Manager to provide Film Library services to a variety of internal and external patients. Responsible for performing the following work processes: reception of patients, preparation and maintenance of film file folders, library files maintenance, film loan management, preparation of films for interpretation, and application of hospital information systems functions.

 JOB DUTIES

1. Reception

Receives requests for films or information from physicians, patients, other hospital or clinic staff members, other medical facilities, and a variety of others (insurance companies, attorneys, courts, etc.) Requests may be presented in person, by mail, FAX, or computer systems, or by telephone. Responds to all requests in a timely, efficient fashion, while interacting in a professional manner with all patients.

2. Preparation and Maintenance of Film File Folders

Prepares or updates film file folders according to established polices.

3. Prepares Films for Interpretation

Matches films, requisitions and other documentation to proper film file folder. Hangs film on film viewers in preparation for image interpretation by the radiologist.

4. Film Library Maintenance

Files films file folders in a variety of library (Main, 3 Day, Basement, Legal, Deceased, etc.) using alphabetic and/or terminal digital numeric filing arrangements. Transfers folders between libraries. Purges film according to established polices.

5. Film Loan Management

Prepares films for loan to a variety of internal and external destinations. Maintains film-tracking information in Cancer RadNet and Datashare computer systems. Retrieves film loans in a timely fashion to preserve availability of images for continuity of care.

6. Medical Records

Files films in proper insert and master folders. Files reports and other documentation to maintain Radiology's medical record in an accurate and complete form.

7. Uses/Maintains Information Systems

Uses a variety of computerized and non-computerized information systems to obtain information required to perform film library duties. Updates databases in various computer systems using keyboard or bar code data entry methods.

6. Other Duties

Performs related duties, assists others as needed and performs special assignments as necessary for the smooth operation of Imaging Services Department.

High School Diploma.

2. Licensure

3. Experience

None.

4. Essential Technical / Motor Skills

Hand/eye coordination required to work with various computers, to accurately position and apply adhesive labels to film jackets. And to perform other general clerical and administrative duties.

5. Interpersonal Skills

Good communication skills needed to deal with patients, their families, physicians, co-workers and other staff.

6. Essential Physical Requirements

Standing/walking for extended periods, stair Climbing, and ability to lift, carry and/or maneuver objects weighing 30 pounds using proper body mechanics. Ability to stoop and bend with objects, using proper body mechanics. Ability to lift items weighing 5 pounds above the head.

7. Essential Mental Skills

Mental concentrations long and short term memory and innovative problem solving abilities. Ability to interpret information and make immediate judgements in situations not clearly covered by polices to carry out film library duties in support of patient care. Ability to alphabetize and correctly sequences series of numbers into terminal digit filing sequences.

8. Essential Sensory Requirements

Able to see, hear and speak with or without the use of prosthetic devices. Color vision required due to color-coded filing systems.

9. Exposure to Hazardous Substances

Patient care environment may involve exposures to infectious diseases, film processing chemicals, ionizing radiation, magnetic fields and radio frequency waves.

10. Work Hours

Rotate day shift, afternoon shift and weekends.

11. Age Specific

Proficient with all age groups within defined patient population
