JOB SUMMARY |
Works under the leadership of the Radiology Manager to provide ultrasound services to patients of all ages. Responsible for performing and filming of procedures, assists with various invasive procedures; patient and employee safety, documentation, medical records, inventory management and scheduling. |

JOB DUTIES |
|
1. Diagnostic / Interventional |
Performs high quality ultrasound exams on patients of all ages, assuring that professional care is provided. Assists Radiologist with invasive procedures. Performs radiographic and bone density procedures when needed. Develops exposed film. |
2. Safety |
Demonstrates knowledge of safety in the work place to prevent accidents and injuries. |
3. Quality Assurance functions |
Performs quality tasks for ultrasound units and film processors; Investigates and makes corrections if necessary. Reviews and updates Quality Control manual to meet federal, state and local standards. |
4. Equipment Management |
When necessary, assures appropriate service/repairs/preventive maintenance occurs on equipment. Insures all equipment needed for daily operations are present and operational. Maintains adequate level of supplies for daily use. |
5. Information Management & Film Library Support |
Acknowledges computerized orders and charges appropriately for examinations. Assembles the final test results with notification of any abnormal results that need immediate attention to the interpreting physician. Consolidates films with patients` jackets and updates jacket as needed. Loads and unloads the automatic viewers. |
6. Medical Record Management |
Maintains appropriate documentation for regulatory agencies and medical record. |
7. Other Duties |
Performs related duties, assists others as needed and performs special assignments as necessary for the smooth operation of the department. |
JOB SPECIFICATION |
|
1. Education |
Graduate of an accredited program in ultrasonography. |
2. Licensure |
Registered by ARDMS or registry eligible; registered in radiography and DEXA certification preferred. Must be CPR certified. |
3. Experience |
Twelve months of experience in ultrasound with current skills in abdominal, OB/GYN ultrasound and physics. Three months experience in bone densitometry. |
4. Essential Technical / Motor Skills |
Sight and hand/eye coordination required working with various computers and handling of equipment. Standing for extended periods, walking, stair climbing, and ability to hear and interpret information. |
5. Interpersonal Skills |
Good communication skills. Ability to interact with individuals for staff cooperation and patient/family communication. Able to care/communicate with patients of all ages. Compassion and patience needed when dealing with patients. |
6. Essential Physical Requirements |
Lifting, helping patients off/on stretcher, escorting and supporting patients, stooping and bending while using appropriate body mechanics. |
7. Essential Mental Skills |
Mental concentration, mathematical comprehension, innovative problem solving abilities. |
8. Essential Sensory Requirements |
Good vision, good hearing and sense of touch. High level of short-term memory |
9. Exposure to Hazardous Substances |
Patient care environment, infectious diseases and body fluids, processor chemicals. |
10. Work Hours |
Available all shifts. Occasional standby calls. |
11. Age Specific |
Proficient with all age groups within defined patient population |
